Invisible, visible, and silent conversation

Imagine if you are smelling bergamot, in which color you would like to stay in longer? In my installation, you can choose the color by your hand. How will you feel? Do you want to share it to other people?

Why?

Smell can be extremely personal or universal, I might hate one, but she loves it. I cry by one, but he could get angry.

So as color.

How will people feel when they smell a smell with a color ?

Experiment Result:

Around 30 people have tried it. It was the first time for everyone to have an experience like this and 100% of them react strongly. They can choose one of the color with the smell they brought in. They would like to stay in for a long time.

They came out with many feelings. Only some can describe the feeling with words like happy or relaxing. Most of them said things like “I had this CBD oil. When I turned the color to yellow, suddenly there was a huge sun, it was so warm, I just want to stay there.” Or “I am floating on many fruits.”

Also some people gave the smell and the color they chose to their friend, and the other person felt like “You brought me back to the coast in my hometown.”

Our eyes were covered, and we were naked. We didn’t know that bike lamp smells so sweet, and the sea shell smells so bitter. The smells we found mixed with our body. We tried, offered, received, and replied. We were learning, and we were communicating. We also think that it can be very hard to communicate only by smells.
