Personal Concert

During the Covid-19 pandemic, face masks became a part of our daily life. We also have to keep distance from each other. It’s much harder to connect with people we know, not even to mention strangers. But I want to connect, with many people.

In this live performance, I connect the in-ear binaural microphone with a recorder and a headphone connected to the other side of the recorder. I use the face mask as an instrument to play. If people are curious or interested enough, they can pick up the headphone. By picking up the headphone, people can hear what exactly is happening in my ears. There is music that I play, also the sound of the environment. The music from the face mask has tones and rhythms. Most importantly, there are emotions.

We have the “safe distance” all the time and I am wearing a face mask. I am not talking, but by playing music to the person who picks up the headphone, and looking at their eyes, we build a very personal and direct link between us.

Never give up contacting. Even when the situation is hard and block many ways of communication, we can use the situation as a tool to connect to each other, even in a deeper and more emotional way.
