Hands are often central to making art. When they move to create, there is a beautiful yet indescribable coordination between the sensory receptors (like the eyes and ears), the brain, and the hands themselves. In many cases, the hands do more than simply carry out tasks—they also receive, process information, and make decisions. While Yingda’s artistic practices are often from observation of others, during this experiment, he became the object being observed. This project captured unnoticed movements of his hands in both video and audio as he created drawings in different locations, and assembled them into an independent artwork.
